The music editor of Radio Devín Peter Markovský shocked the listeners on Sunday during the broadcast of the Hudba o five show when he announced the end of his career. He announced to his fans on the social network what they can look forward to even before the broadcast. “Today at 5 p.m I am broadcasting a very special edition of the show on Devín,” he wrote at the beginning.
It was already clear from the status that all is not well. “In March, we commemorated 50 years since the trial of the Czech underground, and it is only a paradox of the times that this anniversary coincided with what is happening in the current Slovak (soon probably also in the Czech) cultural atmosphere. At the time, the Bolshevik Luza held almost 40 people who were connected to the underground, but also thanks to the fact that intellectual dissent and intellectuals in the West stood up for this ‘free youth’. in the end, only four were convicted in Prague – Plastiko manager Ivan Martin ‘Magor’ Jirous, Plastiko saxophonist Vráťa Brabenac, poet and founder of the band DG 307 Pavle Zajíček and songwriter and evangelical priest Sváťa Karáska,” he recalled events from the past.
“That’s how we’ll give ourselves strength, which will certainly help us with hits from Plastikov, DG 307, Sváťa Karáska, but I didn’t forget Magor’s favorite band Živé vvý. Already today, on Sunday, April 12, 2026, on Radio Devín at 5 p.m.,” he added.
On the air of Radio Devín, he launched a harsh criticism of the government and the leadership. “Given the situation in which Slovak culture and the environment of Slovak Radio are located, I can no longer remain silent and at the same time allow my name to be associated with this institution. Therefore, I have decided of my own volition to end the broadcasting and production of my show. Today we will hear each other for the last time on the airwaves of Radio Devín“, he shocked the listeners.
He stood up for his colleagues. “However, I will not leave quietly. I dedicated the previous session to colleagues who were fired from Slovak Radio only because they were not afraid to express their opinion and did not passively watch the destruction of the public media. That is why I dedicate this session again and their names deserve to be repeated again – To Sonia Gyarfašová, Rozália Vlasková, Tomáš Bartoněk, Mariana Jaremková, Zuzana Golianová, Andrea Makišová Volárová, Ondrej Starinský and Ivan Brad,” he named people who had to leave the public media.
Colleagues did not leave them alone in this and it even cost one his own place. “And also to Janko Sklenár, who defended these colleagues a few weeks ago in his Blue Time show and he was also fired from Slovak Radio the next day and his employment contract was shredded. I would also like to mention my friends, the signatories of Charter 77, whose courage and fight for the truth does not leave them even today and wrote a petition in support of our colleagues. And finally, I would like to greet the presenter duo Olja Triašek and Palo Čejko, who also couldn’t stand idly watching what has been happening on Slovak Radio in recent days. and decided to stop broadcasting their show on Radio _ FM“, he continued.
Markovský said strong words at the end. “What the representatives of the Ministry of Cultural Destruction and the management of the television station have been showing lately is indeed terrible, but it is only a manifestation of their fear and paranoia. Let us not be intimidated and let us not give up our fight. Let’s think of the words of Ján Palach, who said that a person must fight against that evil, which is enough,” added the moderator, who took a dig at the Minister of Culture Martina Šimkovičová and the general director of STVR Martina Flašíková.
