Former federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) did not attend the interrogation called by the Federal Supreme Court, this Tuesday afternoon (14), in the criminal action for coercion during the course of the process. With his absence, the case may proceed to the final stages before trial.
Eduardo is accused by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) of having intentionally disrupted the judicial process that judged the attempted coup d’état carried out by his father, Jair Bolsonaro, and members of the coup plot in 2022.
In the PGR’s view, the former deputy’s attempt to request that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, lift sanctions against Brazil if Jair was not acquitted constitutes an attempt at obstruction.
This afternoon’s interrogation is part of the pre-trial stage of the process, in which the defendants and witnesses are heard by the court. In the previous phase, Eduardo also chose not to speak out and did not indicate a formal defense in Brazil while he lives in self-exile in the USA.
Once the hearing phase is complete, the case’s rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, will open the legal deadline for the final arguments of the PGR and Eduardo’s defense to be attached, who due to the absence of an indication is being represented by the Federal Public Defender’s Office.
Eduardo Bolsonaro has lived in the USA since last year and lost his mandate in the Chamber of Deputies due to excessive absences in the House’s deliberative sessions. As he was not located to receive notification of the process in person, the former parliamentarian was cited by notice, communicating the criminal action through an official publication.
