The US military announced another attack on a ship suspected of drug smuggling in the eastern Pacific. In recent days, this is already the fourth incident in which several people have died.
The US military announced on Tuesday that four people were killed in an attack on another ship suspected of drug smuggling in the eastern Pacific. It is also the fourth such fatal attack in the past few days. TASR writes about it according to an AFP report.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a post on Platform X that the attack, like the previous three, took place in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
Deadly attacks on ships
Two people were killed in Monday’s attack, while CENTCOM said five people were killed and one survived in two attacks on Saturday. Since the beginning of the operations against the so-called “narco-terrorists” at the beginning of September, at least 17 people have been killed in similar attacks.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said the United States is in an “armed conflict” with cartels in Latin America, calling the attacks necessary to curb drug smuggling and overdose deaths. However, critics question the legality and effectiveness of these operations, pointing out that most fentanyl enters the US by land from Mexico.
