The president of the Chamber of Deputies, (Republicanos-PB), stated on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) that he will maintain the PEC processing calendar at the end of the 6 X 1 scale. The decision was taken after the president (PT) presented a bill on the reduction of working hours to the Chamber.

During the Palácio do Planalto, Motta defended that the proposal continues to be processed via PEC, but Lula argued that sending a project with this topic is for him and the government.
Congress will have 45 days, after receiving Lula’s text, to vote on the proposal. If this is not done, the project will block the Chamber’s voting agenda and prevent the analysis of other matters until the topic is deliberated. This mechanism for sending under a constitutional urgency regime.
At Motta’s request, the PEC will follow the stipulated schedule. The proposal is scheduled to be voted on in the Chamber this Wednesday (April 15). Afterwards, the leaders will meet again to define whether the agenda will continue as the PEC or the PL sent by the government.
The strategy is to build an understanding of which text will have priority and how to avoid conflicts between the Executive’s project and the proposal already under analysis.
