Second massacre in Turkish educational centers in less than 24 hours. At least four people have died and twenty have been injured – four of them in critical condition – in a shooting carried out by a student at the Ayser Çalik Institute in the Turkish city of Kahramanmaraş, in the southeast of Turkey and in the province of the same name.
The aggressor is a student at the center, about 14 years old, who also died during the attack. Specifically, it was an eighth grade high school student, as announced by the governor of the region, Mukerrem Unluer.
Among the victims, in addition to three fifth-grade students, that is, between 10 and 11 years old, there is a teacher. At this time it is unknown whether the alleged shooter died from suicide or an accidental shooting.
A massacre with his father’s weapons kept in his backpack: an investigation is opened into a possible contagion effect
According to the governor, the young attacker would have used a total of five of his father’s weapons, which he would have brought into the educational center facilities in his own backpack. On the other hand, it has also emerged that his father is a former police officer.
It should be recalled that yesterday, Tuesday, a former student opened fire at a school in Siverek in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, wounding at least 16 people, including students and teachers, before committing suicide.
Taking into account that these types of events are rare and infrequent in Turkey, Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek announced on his official X account that an investigation into the attack had been launched. The Turkish authorities will also try to clarify if there is a connection between the two shootings, in schools that are 200 kilometers apart, and if there has been a contagion effect.
