Stock Exchange surpasses real record after 18 years

Ibovespa reached 199,232 points at its highest this Wednesday (April 15), surpassing the historic high when adjusted for inflation

Ibovespa, the main index of the (São Paulo Stock Exchange), reached 199,232 points this Wednesday (April 15, 2026). In addition to renewing the nominal record, this level surpassed the top of the historical series when adjusted for inflation. The previous peak had been on May 20, 2008, at 198,950 points.

On that date, Ibovespa recorded 73,517 points in nominal terms. The main B3 index has recorded consecutive historical highs in this criterion in 2026. On Tuesday (April 14, 2026), the index reached its 18th nominal record, at 198,657 points.

The survey was carried out by , founding partner of Elos Ayta Consultoria, based on the IPCA (Broad National Consumer Price Index).

According to him, the Stock Exchange has been boosted by a “rare combination” of foreign flow and favorable exchange rate. He said that the real record represents a cyclical recovery and a structural recomposition of the value of the Brazilian stock market over time.

“Since its peak in 2008, the index has gone through almost two decades without being able to fully recover its inflation-adjusted value. During this period, the market faced relevant shocks, such as the global financial crisis, the 2015-2016 domestic recession and the collapse caused by the pandemic. The most critical point occurred in January 2016, when the Ibovespa fell to 62,970 points in real terms”he stated.

FOREIGN CAPITAL

The net inflow of foreign capital was R$67.8 billion in the year to Monday (April 13, 2026), the latest data available. In the April partial, the balance is positive at R$14.4 billion.

Einar stated that the entry of foreign capital into Brazil is related to the context of global relocation to emerging markets. Furthermore, the devaluation of the dollar in relation to the real amplifies the performance of the Ibovespa in the dollarized metric.

IBOVESPA IN DOLLARS

The Ibovespa is still far from the record if the trajectory is corrected by the North American currency.

The peak was marked on May 19, 2008, at 44,616 points. It reached 33,886 points on Tuesday (April 14, 2026), and would have to rise 11.86%.

IBOVESPA AT 200 THOUSAND POINTS

Ibovespa is approaching the 200 thousand points barrier. Financial agents react with optimism to negotiations between the United States and Iran to stop conflicts in the Middle East. The expectation of less turbulence attracts international capital flows to emerging countries, including Brazil.

Investors’ risk appetite has increased, which makes the country one of the options to obtain greater profitability. Furthermore, Brazil is an exporter of oil and iron ore and benefits from the appreciation of these commodities. Companies like Petrobras and Vale have more weight on Ibovespa.

The electoral scenario has also contributed to some of investor optimism.

Research shows that the senator and presidential candidate (PL) has shown himself to be competitive in terms of voting intentions. Financial agents criticize the government (PT) for growing public spending and increasing public debt, which have effects on interest rates and economic activity.
