Energopomoc has not been canceled and will not be canceled either. The Ministry of Economy (MH) of the Slovak Republic emphatically rejects false claims about its suspension. Based on the law and regulation of the Government of the Slovak Republic, the framework for targeted energy assistance is approved for the entire year 2026 and its provision continues without interruption. The press department of the MH informed about it on Wednesday.
“On the basis of the valid legislative framework, aid is provided to approximately 90% of households in Slovakia. In the case of electricity and gas, it is realized in the form of a discounted price directly in the invoices, in the case of heat through energy vouchers,” said the ministry. According to the law, the Ministry of Economy conducts a review of the fulfillment of the conditions for the provision of energy assistance at least once a year.
In response to the demands of citizens, especially in connection with the consideration of new data on permanent residences in the register of natural persons, the Ministry will proceed to reassess the claim twice a year in 2026. According to MH, during the first reassessment, data as of March 31, 2026 will be taken into account. Only after the expiration of this period was it possible to proceed with the processing of new data. It is a large-scale and technically demanding process, as it works with data on 5.569 million inhabitants in the registers of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, with millions of data from the real estate cadastre system, and at the same time with data on 3.86 million electricity and gas take-off points.
“In the field of heat, we coordinated and refined the data with 176 suppliers in 302 price locations for 18,091 heat take-off points for the subsequent provision of energy assistance for 518,608 apartments,” explained MH. Processing such a volume of data requires a longer period of time, similar to what happened when the system was introduced at the end of last year. At that time, data as of November 27, 2025 were taken into account when calculating entitlement to energy assistance, and the first processed files were handed over to energy suppliers at the beginning of January 2026, as well as files for Slovak Post for printing energy vouchers.
“The Ministry of Economy is currently in the final phase of processing these updated data, which will be fully available by the end of April 2026 at the latest,” continued MH. According to the ministry, nothing changes for most households. If the reassessment shows that they still meet the conditions, they will continue to receive energy assistance automatically – in the case of electricity and gas in the form of lower prices in the invoice, in the case of heat supplies through energy vouchers. There is no need to submit an application or visit the authorities.
“From May 1, 2026, updated information on the energy assistance provided will be available on the website www.energopomoc.sk, at the client workplaces of the district offices and through the call center“, the Ministry of Health added. It described the spread of false information as irresponsible and misleading, especially at a time of heightened public sensitivity to energy price issues.
