In Washington DC, the minister said that the debt renegotiation program will be for families, informal workers and small businesses
The Minister of Finance, said this Friday (April 17, 2026) that the debt renegotiation package is ready to be announced. The launch of the measures depends on the agenda of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
The expectation is that the announcement will be made after Lula returns on Tuesday (April 21, 2026).
Em WashingtonD.C.where he fulfills his agenda, the minister declared to journalists that the program is not public resources and that the Treasury will not subsidize deadlines or fees. The government will act as guarantor of operations, but will not have “primary expenditure”, he stated.
According to Durigan, the project is for 3 groups:
- families;
- informal workers;
- small businesses.
The minister stated that the objective is to create ways for larger debts, such as credit cards, to be renegotiated with lower interest rates, but with some type of guarantee.
The target audience is people who earn up to 2 minimum wages and are registered with CadÚnico (Cadastro Único). For some modalities, income can be up to 5 salaries.
Discounts can reach up to 90% with rates between 2% and 2.5% per month.
