There are no sticking points left between the United States and Iran for a deal that is “very close,” according to US President Donald Trump. He said so in an interview with AFP, reports TASR.
- Donald Trump says the deal with Iran is very close.
- According to Donald Trump, the Strait of Hormuz is open again and passable.
- The United States plans to ship Iran’s enriched uranium directly to America.
- The US naval blockade of Iran will continue until the agreement is reached.
- Donald Trump rejects reports of releasing frozen Iranian assets for uranium.
“We’re very close. It looks like it’s going to be good for everybody. And we’re very close to a deal,” Trump said in a phone interview after a series of posts on his Truth Social platform, including on Iran and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Strait of Hormuz open
“The strait will be open, it is already open. And things are going very well,” stated the head of the White House.
According to him, there are currently no disputed points in connection with the agreement with Iran. When asked why he was unable to conclude an agreement after his optimistic posts on the social network, he replied that he wanted an agreement on paper. “I don’t do it that way, I want it in writing,” he declared.
Cooperation on uranium
Trump also gave an interview to Reuters on Friday, to which he said that the United States will work with Iran to obtain its enriched uranium and transport it to the United States. “We’re going to put it together. We’re going to go with Iran at a leisurely, leisurely pace and go down and start digging with heavy machinery … We’re going to bring it back to the United States,” he said. He referred to the “nuclear dust” that they will obtain “soon”.
Reuters explains that this “nuclear dust” is a reference to what Trump said was left after the US and Israel bombed nuclear facilities in Iran in June 2025.
Iran’s nuclear program
According to assumptions, Iran possesses more than 408 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent purity. According to Reuters, the issue of Iran’s nuclear program is one of the most problematic points in the negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
According to the US president, the main reason for the war was to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Tehran has long maintained that its nuclear program is exclusively for peaceful purposes.
The naval blockade continues
The White House chief also says the US will continue its naval blockade of Iran until a deal is struck.
According to him, more negotiations will be needed to conclude the agreement, which could take place over the weekend. He added that if an agreement is reached, he himself might come to Islamabad, where the first round of talks between the US and Iran took place last weekend.
He says the United States is also working with Iran to remove mines from the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Trump, media reports that his administration is considering releasing $20 billion in frozen Iranian assets in exchange for Iran giving up its stockpile of enriched uranium are false.
