Italian dominates Zverev and competes in the final in Munich against Fonseca’s executioner

Flavio Cobolli starred in one of the surprises of the ATP 500 Munich this Saturday (18). The Italiansurpassed, number 3 in the worldin straight sets, with a double 6-3, and advanced to the final of the competition.

With the victory, Cobolli — 16th in the ATP rankings — ensures his presence in the decision and now awaits the definition of the other finalist. The opponent will be the American Ben Shelton, currently sixth in the world rankings, who surpassed the Slovakian Alex Molcan.

At 23 years old, Flavio Cobolli reaches the fifth decision in his career, being the fourth in ATP 500 level tournaments.

In direct confrontation, the Italian has a disadvantage against Ben Shelton, with two wins and three defeats, although he got the better of the only duel played on clay.

Eliminated in the semi-final, he wasted the opportunity to play his fourth final in Munich and try for his fourth title in front of his fans — he was champion in 2017, 2018 and 2025.

Despite the early fall, the German scored 200 points in defending his previous title and remains consolidated in third place in the world rankings.
