Moderator Andrea Pálffy-Belányiová came out with a painful confession. Three years ago, doctors discovered a lump in her breast during a preventive mammogram, the portal writes. In the case of the TV star, it was an early stage, although she had no idea that something was happening in her body.
“Thanks to the fact that I am responsible to myself and take preventive measures, this disease was detected in time. I do not understand women who avoid it and ignore medical conveniences. Or they will believe the self-proclaimed experts and charlatans who convince them that mammography is harmful. Please believe in science and progress. Of course, just like with vaccination, also with mammography, you can find two or three experts who claim that it is harmful, but try to listen to the 97 who are “in favor”, she told the Slovaks.
The diagnosis she heard from the doctor was a huge shock for her and still is. “My feelings were exactly the same as those of 3,500 women a year in Slovakia, regret, crying… I also got angry, because I thought it was terrible that a parent of a disabled child had to deal with this as well. But then I concentrated on solving the problem, I studied and consulted a lot about it,” she confided.
Pálffy-Belányiová described what she went through after discovering a lump in her breast. “They’ll send you for a biopsy first because the doctors need to know more about the finding. There’s still a chance it’s not malignant. The wait for the results is endlessly long. I had up to three biopsies in total, so there was a lot of waiting,” she stated, adding that a recommendation for treatment subsequently came.
The presenter shared with the public a shocking secret that no one had any idea about. “For me, it was a bilateral mastectomy, which means that they removed my mammary glands and the surrounding tissue, and since my nodes were fine, they could do an immediate reconstruction during that operation, i.e. insert implants. It was a long 5 and a half hour operation,” she said openly.
At the same time, the viewers did not even notice that Pálffy-Belányiová was fighting an insidious disease or that she suddenly disappeared from the television screens. “My colleagues at work also dragged my services, I only had to cancel a couple of corporate moderators, but finally after a month I slowly returned to the work process. Fortunately, I regenerated well after the operation, so it was possible,” she revealed later.
When asked what is most important during the fight against cancer, her words were hard to find. „People have different settings for handling stressful situations. It is definitely priceless if you have people around you who stand by you, help you during a difficult period and if you have a doctor who is a support for you in every phase of the disease.” he thinks.
“I was also helped by the fact that I could talk to someone who had already been through it from the beginning of a new life situation. And I still have this wonderful woman as a friend in my life. And finally, even during my hospitalization at the National Oncology Institute, in addition to the perfect staff, I met wonderful patients in the department, some of whom I am still in friendly contact with,” she concluded.
