Attack on supermarket leaves 6 dead in Kiev, says Zelensky

Another 14 people were injured and police killed the shooter, according to the Ukrainian president

The President of Ukraine, (Servant of the People, center), used his profile on X to inform that at least 5 people died in an attack in a residential neighborhood in Kiev this Saturday (18 April 2026). A gunman opened fire and took hostages in a supermarket.

According to him, the police killed the shooter and all the circumstances of the event are being reported.

The dead included 1 hostage, 4 victims who were on the street and a woman who succumbed to her injuries in hospital. 14 more people were injured.

Zelensky said the shooter was born in Russia and has been prosecuted for other crimes.

According to the Ukrainian president, 10 people were hospitalized with injuries and trauma and 4 hostages were rescued.

“Investigators from the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine are now examining the full circumstances of the attack in Kiev against civilians. The attacker has been eliminated. He took hostages and, tragically, killed one of them. He shot dead four other people in the street, and one woman died in hospital from injuries sustained. My condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. Four hostages have been rescued. There are currently reports of fourteen injured. Unfortunately, this number may increase as people continue to seek care doctor. Among the injured is a 12-year-old boy. Doctors are providing all necessary medical care. We wish all the injured a speedy recovery. All available information about him and the motives behind his actions are being thoroughly investigated.
