Durigan defends a more efficient State with less bureaucracy

Minister said that one of the Brazilian government’s main challenges is communicating its green agenda

The Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, stated this Saturday (April 18, 2026) that defenders of the role of the State must also defend greater efficiency and reduction of bureaucracy.

The statement was made in Barcelona, Spain, during a panel on green industrial policy at the 1st Meeting of the Global Progressive Mobilization.

“I think that we, who defend the State and the role of the State, have to defend a State that is efficient and that fulfills its role very quickly without excessive bureaucracy”, disse Durigan.

The minister listed communicating its agenda and projects to the population as one of the government’s main challenges. According to him, countries are not “winning hearts” with its projects and green agenda.

According to Durigan, it is also not about how governments explain their policies to people. As an example, he cited the regulation of the carbon market in Brazil.

“We created a sustainable tax. If your product or business is harmful to the environment, you will pay a little more in terms of taxes. But this is not reaching the population”he declared.

CONFLICT IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Durigan spoke about the impacts of the war between the United States and Iran. In his opinion, the conflict in the Middle East creates uncertainty. Therefore, international cooperation with a long-term vision is necessary.
