Two tankers are blocked from passing through the Strait of Hormuz

Navigation through the Strait of Hormuz remains paralyzed this Sunday (19). Two tankers loaded with LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) that were leaving the Persian Gulf abruptly turned around, according to ship tracking data.

The two vessels, identified by MarineTraffic as Meda and G Summer, were the only ones with active transponders sailing through the strait this Sunday (19). The ships fly the flags of Botswana and Angola.

According to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, Iranian armed forces blocked the passage of the tankers, which had to change course.

Both while sailing under different names, for carrying Iranian LPG.

No other ships were seen crossing the strait in any direction, following the announcement made on Saturday (18) by .

The Meda is a tanker that left an anchorage area in the United Arab Emirates late Saturday night (18). OG Summer had left Kuwait.

Both turned around south of the Iranian island of Larak.

Iran’s announcement of the new blockade was a response to US President Donald Trump’s insistence – despite Tehran’s indications that the country was ready to ease shipping restrictions.
