President ended international agenda in Spain with prayer there; PT member posted video kneeling in church
The president (PT) and First Lady Janja Lula da Silva visited the Catholic church Sagrada Família, in Barcelona, this Sunday (April 19, 2026), after completing a political agenda in Spain.
The visit took place at the end of the president’s official visit to the European country. Lula was in Barcelona from April 16th to the beginning of April 19th. The trip also includes Germany, where the president landed this Sunday, and Portugal.
Em no Xthe president stated that the visit was a “moment of peace, prayer and reflection”. He declared that he left the city with the conviction that dialogue is essential to face global challenges.

In Spain, the PT member met with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez (Psoe, left) and participated in the Brazil–Spain Summit, focusing on economic cooperation and strategic agreements. The agenda included meetings with businesspeople and authorities.
The president also took part in the 4th meeting of the Forum in Defense of Democracy and the 1st meeting of the Global Progressive Mobilization with progressive leaders from around 25 countries. The agenda was an international articulation against the advance of the right.
During speeches, Lula cited the attempted coup in Brazil and criticized political opponents, in addition to defending the strengthening of democratic institutions.
The trip is part of the government’s strategy to reinforce Brazil’s presence on the international stage, expand partnerships and discuss topics such as democracy, inequality and climate.
