European Commissioner for the Economy Valdis On Friday, Dombrovskis strongly rejected the easing of sanctions against Russia, for example, in relation to its oil exports. TASR informs about it based on the report of the DPA agency.
“It is clear that now is not the time to ease the pressure on Russia. We must continue to put pressure on it and apply sanctions,” Dombrovskis said on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Riga. At the same time, the Eurocommissioner emphasized that it is not an “easy task” considering that unanimity is required within the EU.
According to Dombrovskis, several European states have already shown initiative regarding further trade restrictions and visa restrictions for Russian citizens. The EU has so far imposed 20 sanctions packages against Russia since it launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
