Reid Wiseman used the device’s zoom to capture details of the Moon during the mission
The astronaut released this Sunday (April 19, 2026), a video recorded with the zoom of a cell phone while aboard the Orion spacecraft via Artemis 2. The publication made on X provides details of the first manned mission to the Moon after more than 50 years – which was commanded by Wiseman.

“We only get one chance in this life… Like watching the sunset on the beach of the most exotic place in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist recording a video of the sunset on my cell phone. You can hear the Nikon shutter as Christina Koch (mission specialist) takes photos, in 3-shot sequences, and captures these exceptional sunset photographs through the 400mm lens. Victor Glover (pilot) was in window 3 watching with Jeremy Hansen (mission specialist) by his side I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window, but the iPhone was the perfect size to capture the view. This is the uncropped image, with 8x zoom, which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye,” published Wiseman.
NEW ARTEMIS MISSIONS
The Artemis 2 mission began on April 1, 2026 and 10 days. Aboard the Orion spacecraft, astronauts flew over the far side of the Moon and reached the furthest point in space ever reached by a human being.
The Artemis 3 mission is scheduled for 2027 and Artemis 4 for 2028. The initiatives aim to deepen tests before returning to the lunar surface, which could take place in 2 years.
