The leader of the Tehran delegation in negotiations with the United States warned this Monday that his country will not accept “negotiations under the shadow of threats”on the possibility of new meetings with Washington in Pakistan.
Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, who is also president of the Iranian Parliament, reiterated his condemnation of the US violations of the current ceasefire and the naval blockade imposed on Iranian ports, adding that Iran is preparing new strategies to resume the armed conflict.
“By imposing a blockade and violating the ceasefire, Trump wants to turn the negotiating table into a surrender table and justify the resumption of hostilities at will,” the main Iranian negotiator highlighted in a message on the social network X.
Qalibaf stated that Iran does not accept “negotiations under the shadow of threats” and that, during the ceasefire, Tehran “prepared to show new cards on the battlefield”.
Afterwards, several North American media outlets and sources close to Vance denied the information, clarifying that the vice president, who leads the White House delegation, will only travel on Tuesday for the Wednesday meeting, which coincides with the end of the two-week truce.
Donald Trump warned this Monday that will only lift the blockade on Iranian ports if there is an agreement in peace negotiations with Iran.
In previous statements throughout the day, Trump threatened that if his demands are not met by the end of the ceasefire with Iran on Wednesday, “many bombs will explode”, adding that the objective to be achieved is an Iran “no nuclear weapons”.
Extension of the truce is “very unlikely”
DDonald Trump considered an extension of the truce between the two countries is also “very unlikely”, started on April 8th.
On the Iranian side, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Bagaei, lowered expectations, stating that Iran has no plans to attend on Tuesday.
The Islamic Republic conditioned the resumption of dialogue on the lifting of the blockade on Iranian ports and ships, after the United States seized an Iranian vessel last Sunday.
The President of Iran has already warned on social media that “Iranians do not submit to force” and commented that “fulfilling commitments is the logic of any dialogue”, not to mention the new negotiating round.
“Iran’s deep historical distrust of the US government’s actions persists, while the contradictory and unconstructive signals from US authorities send a bitter message: they seek Iran’s surrender,” said Masoud Pezeshkian.
In retaliation, Iran launched attacks against Israel and neighboring Gulf countries and blocked the Strait of Hormuz from the passage of commercial ships, causing the price of crude oil to soar across the world.
After the failure of talks in the Pakistani capital, Trump ordered a naval blockade of Iranian ports.
At the center of discussions between the two countries, there is Iran’s nuclear and uranium enrichment program, as well as the production of long-range missiles and support for militias in the Middle East and the unfreezing of Iranian assets.
