Ticks start to be active in the spring, so you have to pay attention to prevention when moving in nature. It is ideal to choose light colored long pants, higher socks and closed shoes. Do not forget to apply an effective repellant before leaving the house. The emergency health service ZaMED recalls this on the social network.
“Whenever you return from nature, your first step should be a thorough body check. Ticks most often choose places with softer skin, such as the armpits, knee pits or the groin area, but they also do not disdain more visible parts of the body. If, despite taking precautions, you were unable to prevent the bite, the tick must be removed as soon as possible after its discovery.” added the rescuers. They recommend using tweezers, which should be used to grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible. Subsequently, they advise to pull it out with a smooth, perpendicular pull away from the skin.
After successful removal, it is important to ensure that the tick is intact and to disinfect the wound immediately. “Over the next few days, monitor the injection site carefully. If a red spot appears on the skin that expands and fades from the center, or if you start to have a high temperature, headache or joint pain, do not delay visiting a doctor.” added ZaMED.
