US officials recently met with their Cuban counterparts in Havana, a Cuban foreign ministry official confirmed today in an interview with state media Granma.
Alejandro García del Toro, who handles US affairs at Cuba’s foreign ministry, said neither side set deadlines or made threatening statements during the meeting, which he described as “respectful”.
Neither side made any threatening statements, nor did they issue any ultimatums. For the Cuban delegation, the priority was ending the island’s energy blockade, he added.
Axios reported Friday that a delegation of high-ranking US officials visited the island last week. He also said that the Cubans were given a short window of time to adopt the reforms demanded by the US.
