Botafogo received yet another punishment from FIFA and is prevented from registering reinforcements for three transfer windows. The sanction occurred due to lack of payment when hiring the attacker Rwan Cruz close to Ludogoretsfrom Bulgaria.
Rwan arrived at the Rio club in 2025 for 8 million euros, a value that corresponded to R$48.3 million at the time. The player played 14 matches and scored two goals. The striker later went on loan to Real Salt Lake, in the United States, and then returned to Ludogorets.
In a meeting held this Monday (20), scheduled as an Extraordinary General Assembly, John Textor warned about the . The businessman cited the contribution of R$125 million and demanded solutions from the other shareholders.
Before FIFA’s decision, Botafogo was already facing sanctions from the National Dispute Resolution Chamber (CNRD) for failure to pay a portion of the agreement for the month of March. New athletes in the CBF are limited to six months.
In a statement released on the day of the punishment, Botafogo mentioned the possibility of new similar sanctions soon. In addition to the dispute with Ludogorets, the club accumulates other debts that could lead to new punishments.
The club had also previously been punished for debt to Atlanta United in . At the time, Botafogo even signed players, but was unable to register the athletes for months.
