Mix it with milk and water the tomatoes in the seedlings. This fertilizer will make the seedlings more resistant
Tomato cultivation is constantly gaining popularity. More and more people decide to plant them in their home gardens, allotments, and even in pots on their balconies. Gardeners recommend growing tomatoes from seed. Preparing tomato seedlings in transplants allows for complete control, from seeds to ripe fruit.
Seedling tomatoes are planted from March to April. This gives the seedlings enough time to grow and bear fruit before the end of the season. Tomatoes in seedlings are being pruned. This involves transplanting seedlings into slightly larger pots. It is performed when the seedlings have 2-3 leaves. At this time, weaker and unpromising seedlings are also removed. During pickling, tomato seedlings are planted deep into the ground, up to the leaves. This is to thicken the roots and strengthen the entire stem system.
. Applying nutrients to young seedlings not only accelerates the growth processes, but also strengthens the root and stem systems. Fertilizing tomato seedlings in seedlings makes them bloom and bear fruit better. At this time, home-made conditioners are recommended. They are simple and cheap to prepare, and provide the nutrients plants need. In the case of tomatoes, milk-based fertilizers are most often recommended. This method has been known since the times of the Polish People’s Republic. Cow’s milk is a rich source of calcium. It strengthens the cellular structure of plants and improves their growth. Milk also contains potassium and magnesium, which help stimulate the root system. To make the fertilizer even more effective, you can add baking soda to it. It limits the multiplication of microorganisms and supports the improvement of the condition and immunity of plants. Prepare 1 cup of cow’s milk and add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to it. Mix everything thoroughly and dilute with water in proportions 1:2. Water the tomato seedlings with this fertilizer once every two weeks until they are transplanted into the ground.
How to plant tomatoes in the ground?
. Typically, the best time for this is after the so-called “cold weather”, i.e. after May 15, when the risk of frost is minimal. It is important that the seedlings are properly hardened off. This means gradually accustoming them to outdoor conditions over about a week, exposing them outside for several hours a day, starting from sheltered places and ending with full sun. Before planting tomatoes in the ground, the soil must be properly prepared. Tomatoes grow best in fertile, permeable and slightly acidic soil with a pH of 5.5-6.5.
Planting tomatoes itself is relatively simple. We dig holes that should be deep enough to accommodate the entire root ball of the seedling. Before placing the seedling in the hole, you can gently remove the lower leaves, especially those that would be below the surface of the ground. Tomato seedlings can be planted slightly deeper than they were growing in the pot because additional roots will develop on the stem located underground, which will strengthen the plant. After placing the seedling in the hole, cover it with soil, press it gently and water it abundantly. If we plan to stake, it is best to do it immediately after planting, so as not to damage the roots later. Regular watering, especially in the initial phase of growth, is crucial for the proper development of plants.
