The Venezuelan government increased this Friday (June 26, 2026) to 235 the number of deaths from the 7.5 and 7.2 magnitude attacks that hit the country on Wednesday night (June 24). The new balance was confirmed by the Minister of Health, Carlos Alvarado, in an interview with state TV.
The attacks also left more than 4,000 injured, according to the Venezuelan government. The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez (PSUV, left), said that more than 200 people had been located among the rubble since the search began. In total, 2,227 families were affected and 250 structures were classified as “affected or lost”.
La Guaira, a coastal state in the north of the country and close to Caracas, is the hardest hit area.
Rodríguez said there is “tens” of collapsed buildings in the region. “We can say that the State of La Guaira is a true tragedy and has become a disaster zone”said the brother of the interim president (PSUV).
The IOM (International Organization for Migration), a UN agency, estimates that up to 6.76 million people may have been affected by the earthquakes. The number includes about 2 million people in Caracas. According to the agency, spokeswoman Zoe Brennan said more accurate estimates should be released as new information is gathered.
According to the UN, 16 countries sent search and rescue teams to help work among the rubble. There are 25 teams, with more than 1,000 rescuers. Of these, 17 are urban search and rescue teams.

- have teams sent or expected to arrive – Netherlands, France, Qatar, Czech Republic, Germany, Jordan, United Kingdom, Spain and Ecuador.
Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello dismissed tsunami warning “anywhere in the country”. In La Guaira, he stated that there “absolute tranquility in Venezuelan waters” and said that the government is “working together with the people”.
Brazil the death of 2 Brazilians in earthquakes. Itamaraty reported that it provides consular assistance to families. The victims did not belong to the same family and died in separate collapses. One of the deaths was recorded in Caracas.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, spoke by telephone with the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, and expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people. According to Itamaraty, the Brazilian government is preparing humanitarian cooperation measures, with priority being given to sending search and rescue teams.
The president (PT) with Delcy Rodríguez. The Brazilian government reported that a FAB KC-390 aircraft will carry 36 firefighters from São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paraná, as well as technicians from the National Civil Defense and Anatel, with 9 tons of rescue equipment.
Earthquakes in at least 4 Brazilian capitals: Belém, Manaus, Boa Vista and Macapá. According to the Brazilian Seismographic Network, there is no risk of damage in Brazilian cities.
