Ipsos research shows that 70% of Brazilians believe it is urgent to act against climate change
A survey, released on Wednesday (April 22, 2026), shows that almost half of the Brazilian population (46%) prefers the government to prioritize reducing energy prices, even if this increases emissions of polluting gases. The search “People and Climate Change” indicates that 77% of Brazilians are concerned about the tariff increase.
On the other hand, for 70% of the Brazilian population, it is urgent to act against climate change. Among the 31 countries surveyed, Brazil was the one that showed the smallest drop in this perception — 7 percentage points less in less than 1 year.
Already 71% of Brazilians argue that the country should do more in the fight against climate change. Read the survey (PDF – 6 MB).
The survey also asked whether respondents believe their countries are a global leader in combating climate change. Among Brazilians, 34% agree with the statement and 31% disagree.
The survey was carried out in 31 countries between January 23 and February 6, 2026. Ipsos interviewed 23,704 adults. In Brazil, 1,000 individuals were interviewed. The data is weighted so that the composition of each country’s sample better reflects the demographic profile of the adult population.
