Forget the perfect photos from the Himalayas. Nepal is much wilder, more strange and sometimes quite unexpected. This is exactly how Martin Navrátil will show him in the next part of the Two Faces of the World road trip. On Friday at 22:20 at JOJka, a country awaits you where monkeys occupy temples, traffic works more on feeling than on rules, and death is taken as a natural part of life.
Chaos that engulfs you
Kathmandu is not a city you just “see”. The city draws you in. The smell of incense, dust, blowing horns, prayers – all at once. And monkeys who do whatever they want. Martin finds himself in the famous Monkey Templewhere you will quickly understand that here one is not entirely sure who is actually a visitor and who is a local.
A shot you don’t plan
During the filming, Martin tries to explain the symbolism of the Buddhist stupa – the eyes of the Buddha, the path to enlightenment… simply serious philosophy. But at that moment, a scene that no one expected will take place behind him. The two monkeys, who until then calmly posed in front of the camera, decide to deal with their instincts directly in front of the lens.
And from the spiritual interpretation there is suddenly a very unexpected “naturalistic moment”. The situation is really embarrassing-funny for the whole crew – no one knows whether to laugh or remain serious. And to make matters worse, the monkeys become more aggressive and Martin realizes for a moment that fun can turn into trouble very quickly. This too is the reality of Nepal – spontaneous, unpredictable and completely unscripted.
The girl who is a goddess
It sounds like a movie, but it’s reality. Nepal has a living goddess – Kumari. A girl who is not allowed to show emotions or touch the ground. And no, it’s not a tourist attraction. It is a tradition that the locals protect.
Death as part of life
If you think nothing surprises you anymore, wait for the scenes from the Pashupati temple. Places where bodies are burned and where death is not taboo but a peaceful part of life. Strong for us. Natural for them.
This is not Instagram travel
No filters. No embellishment. Just reality, which is sometimes beautiful, sometimes strange, but always authentic. And that’s exactly what Two Faces of the World is about. Watch the new episode from Nepal on Friday at 22:20 on TV JOJ. After Milujem Slovensko you will have a trip you will not forget. You can also find it on JOJ play and on the JOJ Svet broadcast during the summer months.
