Minister Cristiano Zanin, of the Federal Supreme Court, decided that the president of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Couto, must continue as governor of the state until the conclusion of the trial on the format of the elections for the Rio de Janeiro Executive. In the decision, the judge stated that the election of deputy Douglas Ruas as president of the Legislative Assembly of Rio does not change the STF’s decision to maintain Couto as acting governor.
The decision was signed after the PSD state directory called on Zanin so that the minister reiterated the previous decision, maintaining the president of the Rio de Janeiro Court as governor of the State until the Supreme Court’s final decision on the election in the State. Previously, the Legislative Assembly of Rio had contacted Minister Luiz Fux – rapporteur of another action on the Rio elections – so that Ruas would take over the State government.
