Lebanon: hospitals collapsing to respond to war victims, most of them children

The first direct contacts in more than three decades between Israel and Lebanon, mediated by the United States in Washington, opened a rare diplomatic path. During the talks, representatives of the two countries agreed on the need to disarm Hezbollah, but did not take into account the numerous civilian victims, including many children. The report is from the British Sky News, SIC’s partner television station.

In southern Lebanon, the war has left a trail of destruction and increasing pressure on hospitals and medical teams. Health professionals report that children are among the main victims, with the hospital system struggling to respond to their needs.

Despite diplomatic efforts, stability in the region remains distant and the civilian population continues to pay the highest price.

Around 2,300 people were killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon between the start of the war on March 2 and the ceasefire on the night of April 16, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced.

According to the balance released on April 17, 2,294 people were killed, including 274 women, 177 children and 100 health professionals and rescuers. The attacks also caused 7,544 injuries, the Ministry added.
