The former governor of Minas Gerais and presidential candidate, Romeu Zema (Novo), is considering taking legal action against the minister of the Federal Supreme Court, Gilmar Mendes, for speaking xenophobic words. “My legal team, from the party, is evaluating it. It is an offensive, xenophobic speech, which mistreats millions of Brazilians.”, said Zema, this Saturday (25), in an interview with Itatiaia.

“If he had the opportunity to study in Germany, in Coimbra, congratulations to him. He seems to consider himself, like the untouchables of Brasília, a superior caste. While he is living in luxury, we Brazilians who work are living in garbage”, added Zema.

The former governor’s position comes at a time of tension between the two politicians that began after which portrays the magistrate asking Minister Dias Toffoli to exchange favors amid the Banco Master scandal. After the miner’s posts, Gilmar Mendes sent a representation to minister Alexandre de Moraes on Monday (20) calling for an investigation of the pre-candidate for President. The minister pointed out suspected signs of crime in the publication.

The exchange of barbs became even greater after Mendes mocked, in an interview with Metrópoles, the way Zema speaks. “He speaks a dialect close to Portuguese, we often don’t understand him, I was imagining that he speaks a language from East Timor, Tetum or something like that. In any case, whatever is intelligible, it is important that the PGR, the Federal Police and Minister Alexandre appreciate it”, stated the minister.

Romeu Zema responded to the minister and said that Mendes does not understand his “simple Brazilian language” different from the “snobbish Portuguese of the untouchables of Brasília”.

Mendes also called the miner a “homosexual doll”, a position for which he apologized after the repercussions of his speech. In the publication, Gilmar said that he has no “afraid to recognize the error”, but he considered that there is “an industry of defamation and slanderous accusations against the Supreme Court”. Zema also reacted to Gilmar’s speech and stated that the STF minister showed “all his prejudice towards Brazil”. Also in an interview with Itatiaia, he said that, with his speech, the minister managed to offend homosexuals and millions of Brazilians with his interviews.

I imagined that Minister Gilmar Mendes was a more educated man. In one week he managed to offend homosexuals, he managed to offend miners, people from Goiás, especially us miners from the Triângulo, who have a very characteristic accent. ”

This Saturday, Zema announced that at 5pm he will release another episode of “Os Intocáveis” – the series that triggered the controversy.
