The digital environment represents a significant barrier to the growth of a third political path in Brazil, according to data scientist Sergio Denicoli. During his participation in the WW EspecialDenicoli explained that social networks tend to reinforce political polarization, making it difficult for centrist alternatives to emerge for the 2026 elections.
“What we observe is that the population wants a third way. They are still lost in the options they have, because there is Flávio on the right, Lula on the left, and the third way cannot establish itself with a name with the possibility of winning the election”, stated Denicoli.
According to the expert, the groups are already consolidated on social networks between left and right, creating difficulties for the political center to insert itself in this debate. “Today we have a huge barrier, which is the digital barrier, which is already well formed. The groups are already well formed, the left and the right, and the center has enormous difficulty in entering”, he explained.
The data scientist also pointed out Lula’s wear and tear, noting that the politician faces difficulties in dialoguing even with the center-left. “There is a very clear erosion of Lula, we observe this in the analyzes we do. There is always this erosion, it always appears, there is a lack of hope among the population and there is a portion of the population that would naturally vote for the left and that does not want Lula”, he highlighted.
Denicoli mentioned that Tarcísio occupied the third way space well and now we are beginning to see the rise of Romeu Zema, especially after conflicts with the STF. According to him, when a candidate appears with a confrontational stance towards the STF, right-wing voters demand a firmer stance from Flávio, which does not happen, while left-wing voters demand from Lula a resolution to the conflict in the judicial system.
Despite the difficulties, the expert does not rule out the possibility of a strong third way emerging. “It may emerge, it may be that it will be able to break this digital barrier. And in Brazil everything is very fast, everything is possible. In 2018 no one imagined that Bolsonaro would be elected. There was a very rapid change”, he recalled.
