North Korea reaffirms support for Russia’s policies: state media

The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Unreaffirmed the country’s support for Russia’s policies during a meeting with the Russian Defense Minister, according to the state agency “KCNA” on Monday (27).

According to the official vehicle, the meeting also addressed the international political situation.

A Russian delegation, which included the Minister of Defense Andrei Belousovalso participated in the completion ceremony of a memorial in honor of North Korean soldiers killed in combat in the Kursk region, in Russian territory.

The area was the scene of an incursion by Ukrainian forces in 2024, amid February 2022.

During the meeting, Kim declared that he will remain aligned with Moscow’s positions in defending its sovereignty and security interests, according to the “KCNA”.

The Asian country sent around 14 thousand soldiers to act alongside Russian forces in Kursk after the signing of a mutual defense pact between the two governments. Estimates from authorities in South Korea, Ukraine and Western countries indicate that more than 6 mil of these soldiers died in combat.

Kim also met with Vyacheslav Volodinpresident of the Russian parliament and ally of the president, on which both sides reinforced their commitment to expanding bilateral ties in accordance with the strategic partnership treaty.

The North Korean leader has sought to publicly highlight the role of soldiers sent to Russia, transforming participation in the conflict into a symbol of national sacrifice through official ceremonies and memorials.

In a message written at the memorial site, Kim stated that “the souls of the fallen will live forever with the great honor they defended”shared the state agency.
