Allies of the senator (-RJ) have been demanding, behind the scenes, that the presidential candidate reduces Marcello Lopes’ role in the pre-campaign.
The former civil police officer worked in a government in the Federal District and owns an agency that serves the (Bank of Brasília), involved in Master’s fraud.
Marcellão, as he is known, is a close friend of the senator. PL interlocutors say that. In fact, he has gained more powers throughout the pre-campaign.
The problem pointed out by the same interlocutors is that Lopes’ past and the actions of his advertising agency could have an impact on Flávio’s electoral campaign, even if he collaborates informally with the senator.
Lopes worked in the government of Agnelo Queiroz (PT), in the Federal District (2011-14). At the time, he was investigated by the PF () for illegal interception of adversaries’ emails. who, after the episode, was dismissed from the DF Military House.
Furthermore, he owns the advertising agency Cálix, which serves the BRB (Banco de Brasília), involved in Master’s fraud. The contract is not new, but Flávio’s allies fear that the performance will negatively affect the presidential candidate’s campaign.
PL members claim that Lopes has played the role of informal coordinator of the campaign, including outlining the lines of action for the communications team.
To the Panel, Lopes said that his work has been exclusively one of contribution, with the exchange of ideas, scenario reading and strategic support. He admits that there could be more effective participation in the campaign.
“If this comes to fruition, I will take a leave of absence from my company’s presidency to dedicate myself effectively to the campaign,” he stated.
He expressed astonishment at criticism coming from the PL. “It doesn’t seem productive or proportional to what is actually happening,” he concluded.
