It’s too early to lift sanctions against Iran, says European Commission president

BERLIN, Apr 27 (Reuters) – The president of the ‌European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, ‌said on Monday that it is too early to lift the sanctions ‌imposed on Iran.

“We think lifting the sanctions would be too early,” she said in Berlin at a meeting of the conservative German CDU party and its Bavarian sister CSU party, adding that the sanctions are in place due to Iran’s repression of its own population.

‘First we have to see a change, a fundamental change in Iran so that the sanctions are lifted,’ Von der Leyen added.
