The former president () stated, this Monday (27), that political polarization had reached the (Supreme Federal Court) and that the minister should not have responded to the criticisms of the former governor (Novo-MG).
In an interview with journalists before the São Paulo Development Forum, in Itu, in the interior of São Paulo, Temer said that the image crisis the court is going through stems from the loss of dialogue in the country.
“Not only the internal dialogue within the Powers, but even the dialogue between Powers. And the lack of dialogue between Powers is what generated what people call polarization, which I call radicalization,” said Temer.
Asked whether the STF took sides in the polarization, today represented at a national level by the political clash between the president () and the former president (), Temer stated that, when there is radicalization in the country, “it ends up affecting all sectors, it is introduced into all sectors”.
Constitutional lawyer, Temer said that “the Supreme Court is not that much to blame” regarding possible accusations of judicial activism, coming mainly from the right-wing camp.
“If there was any responsibility, but there was not, it was because the [Assembleia] Constituent [de 1988] dealt with all the topics, and all the topics, as a result, are taken to the Federal Supreme Court”, he stated.
The former president added, however, that to the recent attacks made by presidential candidate Romeu Zema.
“I think Minister Gilmar should not have responded, because the more he responds, the more arguments he obviously gives for the challenge.”
Gilmar and Zema have been involved in a public clash after the former governor of Minas Gerais published with Lula and Congress, in the context of the investigations. Gilmar even called the (Attorney General’s Office) to have Zema included in the fake news investigation.
The former governor published, this Saturday (25), who he has called “untouchables”. The images satirize Gilmar and through dolls created by AI ().
Kassab sees little chance of running for president
Also present at the forum in Itu, the president of , , was another to criticize political polarization.
“We need to overcome this moment of hatred”, he said, who launched the pre-candidacy of the former governor (GO) as a third way option to the polarization that is emerging between Lula, who is seeking re-election, and the senator (PL-RJ), political heir and nominated by his father, Jair Bolsonaro.
Before the event, Kassab told the press that he already considers the presidential candidacies to be defined, ruling out an alliance between Zema and Flávio or Caiado, and seeing little chance of Ciro Gomes () entering the dispute.
“I see the picture [de candidaturas] defined. By Ciro [Gomes] I can’t talk. From what I’ve seen, it looks like he’s a pre-candidate for governor. [do Ceará]but if you are running for president, you are welcome. But I don’t think there will be any changes.”
