The president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, stated this Monday (27) that former president Jair Bolsonaro has no “vocation for public life” and that the 2018 electoral scenario favored the victory of whoever stood as a candidate against the PT. The statement took place after a business event promoted by Lide, in São Paulo.
“Brazil could no longer hear about the PT, and Bolsonaro ended up taking over [esse lugar]. Honestly, without any vocation for public life. He did not have a good personal performance, on the contrary, he fell far short of Brazilians’ expectations,” he told reporters.
However, Kassab considered that, despite its lack of preparation for public life, the government was supported by the robust economic team chosen by Bolsonaro and headed by minister Paulo Guedes. “[Bolsonaro] He was lucky to have some good ministers who managed to see the government through to the end. Paulo Guedes, who was not even a minister, was the president of the economy, practically commanded the economy and played a very important role”, he highlighted.
The PSD leader also weighed in on Lula’s management, stating that one cannot question the good programs, such as Minha Casa, Minha Vida and Luz para Todos, but that the PT member “knows how to spend, but not manage the public machine” to make it efficient.
Kassab also commented on the increase in the tax burden that occurred in this third term: “Lula and Fernando Haddad, without mercy, impose taxation on dividends and do not reduce the burden on companies”, he highlighted.
Asked about Lula and Flávio’s favoritism in this year’s electoral polls, Kassab stated that the PSD presidential candidate, Ronaldo Caiado, will have the chance to grow during the campaign and could even reach the second round. For the PSD leader, the PT and PL candidates are the best known, but none of the campaigns managed to “give the answers” that the population seeks in the October election.

“I’ll be honest with you, I don’t see Lula or Bolsonaro winning the election,” he said. “Today, the research reproduces two candidates that have a recall, and those who do not have a recall only grow during the campaign”, he explained.
Kassab also ruled out a possible rapprochement between the party and the PT in the São Paulo state election, after the party did not gain space on Tarcísio de Freitas’ (Republicans) ticket, having been categorical in stating that the chance is zero.
“Zero. I think maybe you didn’t understand our declarations of unconditional support for Tarcísio. The PSD already has a leading role within the government and is the party that has supported the governor from the beginning. I am very happy with its management and very involved in the electoral campaign [neste ano]”, he stated.
