Rule began two months ago but apparently caught 3,500 homeowners off guard on inspection day.
The best known term is “recall”: when the brand calls cars – or many cars – to the workshop to correct a problem. Sometimes these problems put the driver and passengers at risk.
Many owners ignore the warning they receive from the manufacturer, in a registered letter – either they live in another house, or they have sold the car. But now, this outcome also has consequences on the inspection day.
Since March 1st, they have been Cars that have failed this call will fail inspection to the brand’s workshop. The rule came into force almost two months ago but, apparently, there are many Portuguese who don’t know.
The Mobility and Transport Institute (IMT) reveals what 3,453 vehicles failed inspectionbetween March 1 and April 10, precisely because not having made the “recall”.
They are 84 cars per day to fail for this reason. These rejections are around 8% of the total.
And there are still many active “recalls”, which owners should pay attention to: according to the Portuguese Automobile Association, there are practically 70 thousand calls to the factory.
On Monday, the Public Security Police (PSP) indicated that it had fined 9,077 drivers for failing to inspect their vehicles since the beginning of this year.
