Fado singer Carminho returns this Friday, Saturday and Sunday to the Coliseu dos Recreios, in Lisbon, with two of the three shows already sold out, marking the start of the international tour for her most recent album “Eu Vou Morrer de Amor ou Resistir”. The tour, which includes around 40 shows, will pass through Europe, North America and South America.

Fado singer Carminho performs this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (1, 2 and 3 May), at in Lisbon, with two of the dates already sold out. These concerts mark the beginning of the seventh of his career, released in October last year.

Carminho is preparing to return to the stage where he made his first debut at 12 years. In an interview with SIC Notícias, the fado singer admits to feeling “a strong feeling of hindsight, as if I were looking back at my roots”, almost three decades later: “I go with a spirit of great gratitude. It is a privilege to be able to practice my art.”

O new album, which continues the two previous albums “Maria” (2019) e “Portuguese” (2023), is considered the artist’s most experimental album, incorporating electronic elements.

The artist mentions that she does not want to change fado, but rather works on it: “Fado, for me, is an instrument of communication, where I can expose and express what I feel and my ideas. ÉCarminho: “Fado is a language that is alive. We can bring tradition, but always with a discourse of now”

“I use the elements of fado and the characteristics it has to also experiment with some of my ideas and, based on the same pieces, make other compositions. But it’s always about fado: the lyrics, the poetry, the musical structure and the traditional instruments that are used in fado”, he adds.

Asked about the role of the artist as resistance toolCarminho argues that artists should do what they are predestined to do, that is, make art. The artist also emphasizes that creation functions as a “way to bring hope” and that artists are not obliged to have an opinion on everything.

“An artist has a voice that reaches a lot of people and you have to be careful not to speak lightly about things that we’re not sure what we’re saying but can have an opinion on.”

The international tour “I Will Die of Love or Resist” is composed of almost 40 concertos and passes through countries like Portugal, Spain, Mexico, United States, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay or Brazil. After the Coliseu dos Recreios, Carminho heads to the Coliseu do Porto, where he will perform on June 6th.
