Trump says the Strait of Hormuz will reopen on Friday the 19th

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Sunday, the 14th, on his Truth Social network that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz will only take place on Friday, the 19th, after the formal signing of the agreement between the USA and Iran, announced this Sunday. Earlier, Trump had said he authorized the immediate lifting of the naval blockade. He stated that the deadline is necessary for the removal of mines

“With the opening of the strait after the signing of the agreement next Friday, for mine clearance purposes, oil will once again flow in both directions towards the region and the world!”, he declared. “This great agreement will bring peace and security to the entire region”, he highlighted.

Trump, who started the war against Iran together with Israel at the end of February, congratulated himself on the agreement concluded today. “Many presidents have tried to make peace with Iran, and they have all failed before me,” he said. However, former US President Barack Obama had signed an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program during his administration, a treaty that was later canceled by Trump in his first term.

60 dias

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, said that negotiations for a final peace agreement with the United States will be held over a period of 60 days, but only after the Persian country verifies whether the US is fulfilling the commitments made in the treaty announced this Sunday.

“Next Friday, we will have the official signature, and the heads of the two delegations will hold discussions to define future arrangements for negotiations,” he said, according to the Iranian PressTV. “Until then, the issue of the American side’s commitments regarding the end of the war, the lifting of the blockade and the release of assets will be verified,” he declared. “The start of the 60 days of negotiations is conditional on the United States fulfilling these commitments,” he concluded.

Still according to the PressTVIran’s Supreme National Security Council confirmed the conclusion of the “text of a memorandum of understanding” with the US regarding the end of the war. The body reiterated that “the war and military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, will end immediately and permanently from today”, reinforcing the terms released earlier by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, the country that acted as mediator.

“In addition, the US naval blockade against Iran will be lifted immediately and completely,” it said. “Negotiations for a final agreement will be postponed until the other party (the US) fulfills its commitments in accordance with the memorandum of understanding”, he concluded.
