Trump guarantees that the United Kingdom would have helped him in the war with Iran if it had depended on King Charles III

According to the North American president, his “great friend”, would have followed his suggestions

US President Donald Trump argued that the United Kingdom would have helped him in the war against Iran if it had depended on King Charles III, with whom he met today at the White House.

“I think if the decision had been his, if it had been in his hands, he probably would have helped us with Iran,” Trump told reporters when asked about the monarch’s state visit.

The American leader has been very critical of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, of the Labor Party, for his refusal to become militarily involved in the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran closed in retaliation for the American offensive.

“The king is fantastic. We spent a lot of time together. We had long conversations. We also talked about this issue (the lack of support from the United Kingdom in the conflict)”, he revealed.

Trump responded this way when asked by journalists about the historic speech given by Carlos III before the US Congress on Tuesday, in which he called for reconciliation amid diplomatic tensions between the two governments.

“I think he’s a phenomenal representative for his country. I think the people of the United Kingdom should be proud. I loved his speech yesterday [terça-feira]”, he added.

According to the republican, Carlos III, who he considers a “great friend”, would have followed his suggestions not only in relation to Iran, but also the war in Ukraine.

“He would have acted accordingly. He would have followed the suggestions we made to him regarding Ukraine, because, as you know, we have some differences about Ukraine,” he further argued.

However, when asked whether his close relationship with the monarch helps ease tensions with Starmer, Trump insisted that the prime minister did not cooperate with Washington when it requested help in the war.

“When you get along so well with the king of a country, it probably helps your relationship with the prime minister. But in this case, I said to the prime minister, ‘Do you want to send some help?’ And he replied: ‘No, we will send it after they win the war’. I said, ‘This isn’t right,'” Trump criticized.
