Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed today in a telephone conversation to his US colleague, Donald Trump, a truce with Ukraine on the occasion of Victory Day over Nazi Germany, which is celebrated on May 9, the Kremlin reported this Wednesday. “Putin informed his American colleague about his readiness to announce a truce during the Victory Day celebrations. (…) Trump actively supported that initiative,” Yuri Ushakov, the Kremlin’s adviser for international affairs, told local agencies. According to the Kremlin, Trump praised the ceasefire declared by Moscow and kyiv during Orthodox Easter on April 11 and 12, and recalled that “that holiday commemorates our common victory over Nazism in World War II.” Although at Easter both sides accused each other of violations of the ceasefire, analysts highlighted that there was no progress on the front or massive drone attacks.
