The National Congress this Thursday (30) the presidential veto to bill no. 2,162/2023, the called Dosimetry PL. The text proposes a reduction in sentences for those convicted of the acts of January 8, including former Chief Executive Jair Bolsonaro. Through social networks, the opposition celebrated the decision of the Legislature, while government base parliamentarians by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) lamented.

The federal deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) called the PL “unconstitutional”. The parliamentarian stated that the decision to overturn Lula’s veto “reveals the spurious face of an agreement created by sectors that are enemies of the people” with the aim of, in addition to reducing the sentences of those convicted of January 8th, “shielding politicians linked to Banco Master”. The congressman declared that the proposal will be judicialized before the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

The federal deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) classified the decision as “shameful”. The congresswoman said that, in practice, Congress is granting amnesty. She still called on the population to take to the streets against the Legislature’s decision.

The senator Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES) also understood the maintenance of the Dosimetry PL as a “disguised amnesty”. The parliamentarian declared that, in recent years, there has been an effort to “approve tougher rules for serious crimes” and the opposition is moving “in the opposite direction”. He also stated that the decision “feeds impunity and weakens institutions, democracy and the rule of law”.

On the contrary, the federal deputy Andre Janones (Rede-MG) wove criticism of the left wing’s treatment of the Dosimetry PL. For the parliamentarian, the proposal “was approved” when they accepted the nomenclature and cited former federal deputy Rubens Paiva, who died during the Military Dictatorship. “We are losing the narrative not to the right, but to our elitism and our intellectual arrogance. If we don’t start talk to the people of real Brazil, while there is time, the beating at the polls in October will be inevitable”, he declared.

The senator and pre-candidate for Planalto, Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), said that “the defeat” of the Workers’ Party (PT) is “the victory of Brazil”. The parliamentarian thanked colleagues for voting to maintain the bill and to the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), for having put the analysis on the agenda and “help in overturning the veto”.

The leader of the Liberal Party (PL) in the Chamber, the federal deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), shared a photo of him hugged with other parliamentarians after the voting results. In the publication, he wrote that “Flávio Bolsonaro is coming” and stated that they will “free Brazil from the PT”.

The leader of the opposition in the Senate, Senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), stated that the “Congress reacted, faced arbitrariness and served justice”. “Brazil chose pacification, the reunion of families and the rescue of democratic normality. It is the defeat of a power project based on resentment and the victory of a country that wants to turn the page and move forward”, he wrote.

The federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) shared. In the publication, the parliamentarian wrote that “the fight continues”.
