Representative Pedro Uczai (SC), leader of the PT in the Chamber, stated that he does not see the best way to react to the president of the Federal Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), with the mapping of “traitors” and dismissals of political nominees after the vote that rejected Jorge Messias for the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
The statements took place this Thursday, 30th, after the joint session of the National Congress that overturned the veto of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) on the project that changes the calculation of the dosimetry of sentences for convicts.
“I think the best answer is to continue governing the country. The second best answer is to present a new name for Senate scrutiny,” he said. “This new name could be a man or it could be a woman who wins a majority,” he added.
Uczai stated that he is sympathetic to the possibility of Lula nominating a woman to the STF, but said that the president has not yet signaled a decision in this regard.
“I think it’s positive. I think it’s nice. I always have a lot of sympathy for reducing inequality between men and women in spaces of power. There’s no better indication than if it were a woman for the Federal Supreme Court,” he declared.
The PT leader also minimized reactions such as the identification of “traitors” in the vote on Messiah. “I think this doesn’t solve anything. It deepens the conflicts”, he assessed.

He also criticized the idea of dismissing nominees from Alcolumbre and parties that would have betrayed the government. “It could be a tactic, but I don’t think that’s the way to go. The way now is to rebuild the government’s base in the Senate, replace the role of the leaders there, see if other leaders are put in place or not, and seek a majority composition.”
Uczai continued: “I think it’s not the best method, it’s not the best technique, because this is liver, this is revenge, this is revenge. I don’t agree with this way of doing politics. The president (Lula) will need to dialogue with the president (Alcolumbre) within democratic and republican institutions.”
For the deputy, “the government neglected a major agreement in progress”. He said he sees a union between those who defend the coup acts of January 8 and those who fear the progress of the investigations into Banco Master.
