Representatives of and from employers’ unions went to the Esplanada dos Ministérios this Thursday (30) for a protest against what they call, at a time when the
The sector is responsible for more than 18 million jobs in the country.
The initiative, represented by the Coalizão Prospera Brasil and ABVTEX (textile retail association), extended a shirt measuring 70 meters wide and 90 meters high with the phrase: “If you lower taxes for foreigners, you have to lower them for Brazilians”.
The message is a reference to the blouse fee, regulated in June 2024.
According to protesters, the fee helped to reduce some of the unequal competition.
“While Brazilian companies face a tax burden on the cost of goods that can reach 90% throughout the chain, foreign platforms operate with around 45%, even after the implementation of the tax”, says Edmundo Lima, executive director of ABVTEX.
The protest also draws attention to the fact that the United States, Mexico, Türkiye and members of the European Union already tax online platforms, protecting the local economy.
