There was great excitement last year. It even reached the Vienna state parliament. The ÖVP, the Greens and the Neos called for a performance by the controversial Northern Irish band Kneecap planned for September 1st to be banned in Vienna’s Gasometer. The Belfast-based trio Kneecap had, let’s put it carefully, “criticized” the Gaza war and Israel from 2024 onwards. The concert, which was nevertheless permitted (freedom of expression and so on), ultimately did not take place due to security concerns from the authorities.
