SIC commentator Rui Cardoso considers that both countries are betting on time as their main weapon in this confrontation.
The President of Iran and the speaker of the Iranian parliament will be trying to dismiss the Minister of Foreign Affairs due to differences in negotiations with the United States and its proximity with the Revolutionary Guard. “The Iranian regime is relatively monolithic, but there are effectively several factions and these factions clash over the strategy to follow in negotiations with the United States,” he explains. Rui Cardoso.
“A The Iranian side’s dominant position is that we, Iran, can hold out for months, the United States may not be able to hold out for weeks, and therefore, both sides think their greatest weapon is the clock.”
Two important differences between the two countries:
“In the United States it’s the increase in fuel prices, it’s the unpopularity of the war, it’s also the whole issue that has to do with the political situation, the approaching elections. In Iran, it is the advantage of dictatorial regimes, their leaders are not worried about public opinion and think that Iran’s capacity for suffering in relation to sanctions, blockades, non-sale of oil, etc., will be greater than that of the United States”.
