Heavy rains leave at least 4 dead and more than 1,000 homeless in Pernambuco

The state Civil Defense also reports five injuries

The heavy rains that have hit Pernambuco since Thursday (30) have already left four people deadthe state Civil Defense informed Young Pan this Friday (1st).

The agency also reports five injuries. There are a total of 422 homeless people, in public shelters, and 1,068 homeless, in the homes of relatives or friends.

Most affected municipalities:

  • Goiana: 146 homeless people (47 families) and 994 homeless people (371 families);
  • Olinda: 170 homeless people, 5 injured people and 2 deaths;
  • Timbaúba: 34 homeless people (8 families) and 52 homeless people (17 families);
  • Igarassu: 27 homeless people (9 families) and 7 displaced families;
  • Paulista: 32 homeless people and 11 displaced people;
  • Camaragibe:4 homeless people (1 family) and 11 homeless people (6 families);
  • Limoeiro:9 homeless people (3 families);
  • Recife:Records 2 deaths.

The list of shelters in Recife is available on the website. The capital of Pernambuco entered the maximum alert stage at 12 pm, indicating extreme weather conditions, with maximum risk to the population.

Federal aid

National Civil Defense teams traveled, this Friday (1st), to. The decision was made by the Government after contact with local authorities. The teams will work together with civil, state and municipal defenses. The determination was announced earlier by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, contacted the governor of Pernambuco, Raquel Lyra, and the mayor of Recife, Vitor Marques, to advise on the necessary measures for the summary recognition of the emergency situation.

The ministry informed that, in addition to Pernambuco, the government will support Paraíba. The state has also suffered from storms in the last 24 hours.
