PGR speaks out against the use of GDF assets to help BRB

The PGR (Attorney General’s Office) spoke out in favor of suspending sections of the district law that authorized the GDF (Government of the Federal District) to use public assets to reinforce the capital of BRB (Banco de Brasília).

In an opinion sent to the STF (Supreme Federal Court) this Friday (1st), the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, stated that the suspension of the measure would protect the public interest.

“In any case, the suspension of the law serves the public interest more than allowing the implementation of measures that are harmful to public property, which were initially considered, by a duly reasoned decision, to be incompatible with the LODF,” wrote Gonet.

On April 25, the president of the STF, minister Edson Fachin, TJDFT (Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories) prohibited the sale of GDF assets to BRB.

The decision will be submitted to the Court’s virtual plenary session, in a session scheduled to take place between May 8th and 15th.

Fachin understood as plausible the allegation of the Government of the Federal District, which argued that the prohibition caused serious harm to the administrative order.

According to the minister, the decision prevented the implementation of public policy to address the sensitive economic and financial situation of a strategic institution — in this case, the BRB.
