5 prisoners escape from prison in Rio Grande do Norte

Detainees were in the screening room at Pavilion 1 in Alcaçuz and allegedly damaged their cell during heavy rain; police search

The escape of 5 prisoners was recorded this Saturday (May 2, 2026) at the Alcaçuz State Penitentiary, in Nísia Floresta, in the metropolitan region of Natal (RN).

According to Seap-RN (Rio Grande do Norte Penitentiary Administration Secretariat), the inmates were in the screening area of ​​Pavilion 1 and managed to escape after damaging the cell, possibly amid the intense rains that hit the State.

The fugitives were identified as:

  • Carlos Soares Alves da Silva;
  • Jefferson Clayton Lima da Silva;
  • Maycon Dias Mora;
  • Pedro Gabriel da Silva;
  • Rodrigo da Silva Nascimento.

Security forces were called in and are carrying out searches to locate and recapture the fugitives. The secretariat said it was investigating the circumstances of the escape.

The last escape recorded in Alcaçuz occurred on July 17, 2021, according to Seap. Information about the whereabouts of fugitives can be passed on anonymously by calling 190.

RAINS IN RN

The leak occurred amid the intense rains recorded in Rio Grande do Norte this Saturday (May 2, 2026). Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology) issued two alerts for the State: one of potential danger, valid for all municipalities, and another of danger, which includes 112 cities, with a forecast of high volumes and stronger winds.

On Friday (May 1, 2026), the coast of Rio Grande do Norte concentrated the highest volumes of rain. According to the rainfall report cited by the newspaper Northern TribuneNísia Floresta recorded 53.4 mm in 24 hours. Natal had 50.9 mm in the same period.
