Seconds that decide a life: If you see THIS, act immediately! Otherwise, there is a risk of death by suffocation

In the event of an anaphylactic reaction, the key is to act quickly, call emergency services immediately and use an adrenaline pen if available. LSE emergency medical service – Life Star Emergency drew attention to this on the social network. She reminded that an anaphylactic reaction is a sudden exaggerated reaction of the immune system to foreign substanceswhich may cause swelling of the airways and suffocation.

“If it is a common allergic reaction, when a person starts to water or the so-called skin excoriations start to form on his skin, it is advisable for a person to take his prescribed antihistamines. However, if it is an exaggerated reaction of the immune system, so-called anaphylaxis, it is necessary to intervene immediately, because the person can even suffocate,” the rescuers explained.

They pointed out that people with severe allergies often carry an adrenaline pen (auto-injector). In the event of an anaphylactic reaction, it must be used as soon as possible. “The application of the adrenaline pen is very simple in principle. After unlocking, the pen is pressed to the injection site and held for about ten seconds,” paramedics approached. The pen can also be applied through clothing, most often on the thigh or shoulder.

After administration of adrenaline, the health condition should improve, especially breathing. Nevertheless, it is necessary to call for help and stay with the disabled person until the emergency medical service arrives. “You don’t need to leave the person, you need to keep calm and monitor their health,” they emphasized. Upon arrival, the paramedics will provide the patient with further treatment, for example antihistamines, corticoids or infusion therapy.

At the same time, the rescue service reminds that it is important to know your health status and allergies. In case of symptoms of an allergic reaction, he also recommends to see a doctor or an allergist. As she pointed out, ignorance of one’s own state of health can lead to delayed intervention in a critical situation and have serious consequences.
