The former secretary general of the Guyana Football Federation was punished with a five-year suspension, accused of abuse of power in sexual coercion of employees of the South American country’s organization, FIFA announced this Monday.
“The Trial Chamber of the Independent Ethics Committee has banned Ian Alves, former general secretary of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), from all football-related activities for a period of five years, after finding him guilty of abusing his position to sexually harass GFF employees,” FIFA said in a statement.
In addition to the suspension, the South American leader was fined around 22,000 euros.
“After a careful analysis of the written statements of the victims, the documentation provided by the GFF, the allegations of the accused, as well as the various pieces of evidence collected during the Investigation Chamber’s investigation, the Trial Chamber was duly convinced that Ian Alves violated article 24 (Protection of physical and mental integrity), article 26 (Abuse of position) and, consequently, article 14 (General duties) of the FIFA Code of Ethics”, explained the organism.
FIFA recalls that it “maintains a firm stance against all forms of abuse in football”, promising to study each situation “with the specificity it deserves”.
Ian Alves had not been in office since September 13, 2024, the day on which he submitted his sudden resignation, without ever revealing the reasons.
