The Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas (Aleam) defined this Monday, 4th, governor and vice for the buffer term that runs until the end of the year. Roberto Cidade (União) and Serafim Corrêa (PSB) were unanimously chosen by the 24 state deputies, who declared their votes in plenary
President of Aleam and in his second term as state deputy, Roberto Cidade had been acting in charge of the State since April. Former governor Wilson Lima (União) and vice Tadeu de Souza (PP) left their positions to contest this year’s elections.
Also running for governor were William Bitar Barroso dos Santos (PSDB), Sérgio Augusto Coelho Bezerra (Novo), Daniel Fabiano Soares de Araújo (PT) and Cícero José de Lima Alencar (DC). For victory, it was necessary to reach at least 13 votes, the absolute majority of parliamentarians in the House.
Roberto Cidade is 39 years old and began his political career as a substitute councilor in Manaus, in 2016. In 2018, he took up a seat in the City Council and was elected state deputy with the second highest vote in Amazonas (33,239 votes).
In 2022, he was re-elected deputy with 105,510 votes, the highest vote ever recorded in the State. In 2024, he ran for mayor of the capital of Amazonas, but did not advance to the second round.
After the result of the indirect election, Cidade stated that it was a “collective decision”. “This is not an individual victory. It is a collective decision, built with dialogue, respect and commitment to the people of Amazonas.”, he declared according to g1 Amazonas.
